This past weekend I sat down with my good buddy and fellow voracious Videovore Earl Kess as we drilled our eyes into the mind-melting mixtape madness that is ZXQL3000 main brain Roelewapper’s RETARD-O-TRON III. Made in league with Robin Bougie’s (s)excellent publication CINEMA SEWER which scours the seedy underbelly of fringe cinema’s underbelly (you read that right!), this third installment of ROTIII arguably transcends the previous two, spewing forth a frothy overload of unbelievable, uncomfortable and at times totally embarrassing clips harvested from the deepest, dankest VHS dungeons and other unnameable appalling archives. Stitching together over an hour and a...

VHS IS DEAD proprietor Rod Lanham started dishing out tapes in the Wild Wild West fashion, slinging high-quality unofficial editions for nearly impossible to find films and effectively preserving them for the rabid fans of obscure video madness. But recently he’s turned over a new tape and decided to head into the realm of official licensing, acquiring the rights to re-animate one of the most coveted early 90s regional horror pictures there is. Analog aficionado David Royal, who was once one half of the prolific and stylish Vultra Video, has recently taken flight and joined forces with a new group of film fanatics to establish and set forth Royal’s answer to the standards he wants to see thrive in the modern days of indie home entertainment production. Their first release, a VHS re-issue of Drew Bolduc’s indie messterpiece THE TAINT, is slated for release in about a month, and from looks of it, this bad boy will be a slice of home video heaven, indeed. Embrace the night. Feel the force. Live the...

Guy Stone is a Canadian born and bred tapehead with a persistent appreciation for the Father of all home formats: the almighty VHS! He’s owned and operated two video stores in the Great White North over the years and while his original shrine of cinema lending has closed its doors, his new spot Starlight Cinema is churning out movie madness like never before. Guy supplies his movie-craving customers with every modern viewing option available, but those sturdy chunks of black plastic pleasure still populate his shelves should his clientele want to groove on back to the roots of home entertainment...

Recently, while bumping around on the world weird web, I came across a little video that just set my analog heart aflame. It captures a rarity in the VHS collector world, something that I’ve never seen in person and have always yearned to experience. That something, my fellow cravers of video delight, is a fully functional Imperial Home Entertainment release of METMORPHOSIS with touch-button light up eyes! The three 3D covers from Imperial. DIG IT. Imperial also did two other 3D boxes (pictured above), but only DEAD PIT and METAMORPHOSIS had the light-up function. Man, if only BLACK ROSES would...
