U-Haul Home Video / VCR Rentals?! They Existed, and We Got Proof! Check out the Haullywood Portable VCR Coupon!!
Here’s a super-rad rewind-inclined historical find unearthed by the one and only David Movrin himself, Tapeheads! Sourced from the February 1985 issue of Playboy Magazine, here we have a full-page advertisement from U-Haul’s home video rental division, aptly named Haullywood Video! What’s that? You didn’t know U-Haul was in on the video rental market? They totally were, Videovores. From what information we could gather, it seems U-Haul opened seven video rental locations in Michigan in the mid-80s which offered VHS, camera and A/V equipment and more. And with this here coupon, you could get a free, portable VCR (with a custom Haullywood Video case!) as a one-day rental with the paid rental of at least two home videos. U-Haul says: No VCR? No problem, man. Thanks again to Mr. Movrin for sharing this insightful slice of home video rental history. Dig those groovy portable playback machines, man.
Haullywood Video Rentals? I see what ya did there, U-Haul.
