LUNCHMEAT is the kind of publication that’s made for Videovores by Videovores. So, every once in a while, we like to kick back, crack a couple beverages, juice up some nacho platters and catch up with one of our kindred spirits in order to get an individual perspective of what’s going on in the seemingly ever-expanding, analog-obsessed subculture of VHS collecting and preservation. It’s a fun and informative way to see the kinds of groovy personalities which reside in our sub-culture, and also get a look at the hot topics that permeate the collector circuit. Rob Hauschild is without a doubt one of the most ardent and old-school tapeheads that I know. He's been championing the format since I was just a wee little Videovore (hell, probably before I was even conceived, really), and his WILD EYE RELEASING label was one the first (if the not thee first) companies to bring VHS back into circulation, dishing out titles on the video format complete with artwork paying homage to the beloved companies from the golden age of the video era. Since the glory of International Independent Video Store Day is upon us, I wanted to share with you Videovores out there an exclusive interview with the main brain behind the creation of this most excellent celebration of hard media appreciation. And if you’re lucky enough to still have an independent video store within proximity,...

It enabled them to extract themselves from a decidedly hapless situation, if only for a runtime of an hour and some change. The team of a man named Zamfir and his translator colleague Irina Nistor were instrumental in establishing this clandestine distribution of bootleg analog treasures. Their operation was illegal,...

Just a couple of weekends ago (July 20th-22nd, 2012), I had the extreme pleasure of groovin’ my caboose on down to Baltimore, MD to assemble with the incredible creative cadre that is the nation’s largest free arts festival: ArtScape! I collaborated with local Baltimore filmmaker Chris LaMartina (along with some help from Rob Hatch from 48-Hour Film Fest!) and together we unleashed some unbridled VHS appreciation and celebration on the hundred thousand some-odd folks who dared journey through the sprawling array of installations and creations. The front of VHS/VIP! Check out those huge VHS covers! Mega-groovy! Our installation was deemed...
