Let me start by saying that I have promoted, performed, & hosted many a music event in my day – too many to even try to count. Before joining Lunchmeat, I toured the underground hip-hop circuit and it took me all over the world; I’ve been DJ’ing in a crew with friends since I was 15 years old & alongside some really great artists – I even opened for some amazing bands, like glassJaw at Brixton Academy in London, in front of 5,000+ screaming fans one awesome evening back in 2007. I spent most of my younger years religiously attending...

Interview by Josh Schafer (7.19.11) Earl Kessler sure is one voracious Videovore. He eats, sleeps, breathes and (of course) watches VHS every day of his life. His fervor for the format, while extreme in comparison to most, isn’t becoming more of rarity these days; quite the opposite - it seems that more and more people are entering the fold, getting chewed up by the collector bug and grabbing every tape they can, by all means necessary. What does this mean for the average tape collector? Does it mean tapes are going to be harder to come by? Yes. Does it...

Gimmicks encourage sales. That’s a solid fact when it comes to marketing. And VHS video releases were no exception as they employed everything from 3D covers with light up eyes (Imperial Entertainment’s The Dead Pit and Metamorphosis), talking boxes (Shapiro - Glickenhaus’ Frankenhooker), and of course, that natural allure of the almighty big box (see Lunchmeat issue #4 for my write-up on these and a slew of other gimmicky vids!). But I had recently been sent a tape (thanks to Rob from Wild Eye Releasing!) with one of the most amusing (and well-conceived) gimmicks I’ve come across: a flick called...

Slime was one of the coolest things about growing up in the 80's. Sure, there was a plethora of terrible glam hair bands, heavy metal denim jackets, awful synth-pop music, and plenty of cocaine during the decade of decadence. But nothing represented youthful innocence & freedom quite like GREEN SLIME! This entry is a tribute to the gooey, sticky green stuff that made being a kid so much fun. I don't know It all started for me sometime in the early part of the 80's, when I watched You Can't Do That On Television religiously; if you aren't familiar with...

My absolute favorite genre in the exploitation canon is the giallo. As other like-minded giallophiles out there will undoubtedly agree, one of the things that makes it sheer bliss to be a fan of the giallo is the outrageously expansive catalogue of films to choose from. One can indulge in the cinematic perfection of the Argento and Bava entries, the shameless sexploitation of films like Strip Nude for Your Killer or the Grand Guignol excess of a classic like Eyeball. I think it is safe to say, however, that everyone has their personal favorite that they claim as their own....
